No wonder – according to Nielsen, German citizens only spend an average of 3.86 euros on a bottle of sparkling wine. Even during Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the average price for a bottle is just 4.03 euros. Champagne, on the other hand, is usually hardly available for less than 12 to 13 euros per 0.75 liter bottle, even at discounters. In purely mathematical terms, according to the market researchers, every German citizen bought a good 4 bottles of sparkling wine, champagne, Prosecco, Asti, Cava or Crémant in the past twelve months – one bottle of which at Christmas and New Year’s Eve – and spent a total of around 15.60 euros on it.
